TV Show Review: Chuck on NBC

So this (I believe) is the first time I have reviewed a TV show. Yep, an actual television show. Remember Office Space? This was a movie that actually made sense for techies, geeks and nerds. No matter how many times they run it on TBS, I find myself watching it. Why? No not because the boss asked me to come in on Sunday but because they actually took the time to think about what techies are like when they created the movie. So many others didn't take the time and bombed.

Tonight a new series premiered on NBC named "Chuck." The premise is pretty simple. Chuck has some computer in his head from a friend and now he sees things and an attractive blonde woman who is the Jackie Chan of the series from the CIA and together they will protect the country. The tech jokes are funny, the fake bestbuy store is funny and there's just enough action to keep it going.

It's a combo of Office Space, Can't Buy Me Love and Rush Hour. I rarely enjoy any TV shows, but this is now on my dvr. There's a message board and a live blog while the show is airing. Anyway check it out for some good nerd humor.

Update: Dan Lewis, VP Business Development and General Counsel at Wikia just skype'd over a note that they have a Chuck Wikia page.

I thought the pilot was very well done and I hope this show is successful. I did find one part quite interesting. The opening sequence was "borrowed" directly from the French indie film District B13. I will have to research to see if some of the folks from CHUCK also were involved with that film.

I completely forgot to watch this. They really have been doing a lot of advertising for the show and I kept thinking, "I should set up the Tivo on this one" and then of course, I didn't. I did like in the previews that they mock the Best Buy geek squad though with that horrible car.

As I told you, the real fun started around 30mins. The first part, his birthday party and all that stuff was so boring, boring like Family guy. But luckily you told me to stick with it :-)

Time to program my Miro and TVRSS :)

I don't understand how people liked this show. It felt like a 10 year old wrote the storyline. Here's a few od my observations.
1. US Government stores crucial data on a 90's Mac with in the form of "images" with NO backup.
2. The images were "downloaded" into Chuck's head by looking at them.
3. Computer drops and therefore the hard drives are totally destroyed with no way to retrieve the data.
4. He stops the bomb by going to a porno site that has a virus. Seriously, the bomb-controlling PC has internet access?

Those are 4 of the reasons I can think of right now of why I won't be watching this show again. I generally love science fiction shows and was hoping this may be a better version of Jake 2.0, but I was very dissappointed.

So clearly anything on television with any jump of logic deserves to be cancelled.

Perhaps you take your TV a little to seriously.

Go back to watching buffy the vampire slayer and Charmed...

It's TV... It's fake... Relax.

His knife-throwing girlfriend is amazingly beautiful. But I hate the CIA and the NSA. I'd only watch this if the nerd deliberatly screwed things up badly so that Bush couldn't launch his criminal invasion of Iran.

You sound like you'd be really fun at parties.

Someone who hates Bush, how counterculture of you. Why is it that the people who spew drivel like this are also the ones who are so painfully inept when it comes to law and politics? Unfortunately your views have been preempted by the 14 year old "i hate my parents" crowd over at YouTube.

Show seems entertaining enough. I guess if you're like the gentlemen above, it may be a little below you, but for those of us who occasionally journey outside the World of Warcraft, it's probably a worthy way to waste an hour.

I like the show. It makes me laugh a little...kinda like Psych. In a world where almost all sit-coms have canned laughter and they are truly not funny at all; it is refreshing that something as like Chuck might be around for a little while at least.

The actor playing the nerd tries as hard as he can to look like a boob, but he still looks more intelligent and on the ball than Bush. Can you imagine Bush trying to make a living at a real job like selling computers? The nerd is lucky to have his lovely CIA friend to protect him, just like Bush is lucky to have C.Rice to prevent him from making even more of an ass of himself than he does anyway.
