Newspapers make their move to Web 2.0, Monster this time
At the beginning of this month, Google announced that they have partnered with 50 of the top newspapers to begin selling ads in the newspapers using their AdWords system.
Then about two weeks ago, Yahoo has formed a partnership with 176 newspapers to share content, advertising and technology .
And today, Monster has announced a deal with several daily papers and about 40+ weekly papers.
Couple snippets from the release:
"Today's announcement marks another step forward in our localization strategy. Monster continues to pursue small and medium-sized businesses as one of our major areas of growth, and media alliances help us solidify and grow our presence in the regions where these companies are based," said Doug Klinger, president, Monster North America. "These alliances bring substantial value to both large and small regions as we leverage our combined expertise in their markets across the country."
"The relationships we are building are designed to be mutually beneficial and sustainable, and will deliver tangible results for the consumers and employers we serve, as well as the media companies who own and manage these local outlets," said Peter Newton, senior vice president and general manager, SMB, Monster. "Our first media alliance with Philadelphia Media Holdings has yielded strong results to date, including a 25 percent increase in the number of page views recorded on philly.com's career page, underscoring the synergy that is created when local expertise is coupled with our best-in-class products and services."
Alrighty, so I get the Google deal. Makes sense, sounds brilliant and will allow more advertisers to purchase newspaper ads they normally might not have been able to.
Yahoo deal I get. Let's share and save.
Monster seems to say that this newspaper deal allows for better localization. I don't get this. When I search on Monster or any other job search (I like SimplyHired), I can select the locations for the search. While I think getting the Monster brand in front of these users of the newspapers, I am not sure that it will really save any time for the consumer.
