nextNYers – Camlink Online Speed Dating
Allen Stern - February 18th, 2008
This week on nextNYers, Courtney sits down with NY-based Camlink Co-Founder Serge Kalinskiy. Kalinskiy discusses how his research in the growing online dating market led to the launch of this webcam-based speed dating service. Camlink.com features free registration and personalized profiles. In addition, it holds online ‘events’ for people with common interests to come together. They are looking to raise a funding round this spring and are targeting a userbase of 60,000 unique users per month. It’s worth a watch just to see how Courtney really goes into him about business plan, and competitors.
Check out all of the previous nextNYers episodes along with our review of online video in NYC.

Completely agree with that statement!
It is interesting, though I have to say it is incredibly unfair to ask what research one has done to *prove* that there is a market for these types of products. It is essentially impossible to prove . Could facebook have proven demand via market research? No. Could Google? No. Could YouTube? No. These products have to be experienced. And there are so many factors that go into it. Yeah, you could hire a consultant to put some stuff on paper, but at the end of the day, its all bull.
There’s another big online speed dating site that’s gettings some buzz. it’s called Randomate.com – http://www.randomate.com – they call it Speed Dating 2.0 because it’s sort of a hybrid of speed dating online and a traditional dating site.
