NHL Offers Daily Streaming Passes for $20
Allen Stern - March 25th, 2009
The NHL (National Hockey League) has announced that you can now purchase a day of online streaming of all live hockey games for $19.95. The NHL also notes, "The League will continue to offer its NHL GameCenter LIVE “Race for the Cup™” package, which for $79 streams all available games through the Stanley Cup Playoffs, subject to blackouts and other restrictions."
Apparently subscriptions are up 250% over last year. I would have thought that online would be cheaper than ordering through my cable provider – guess not. I’d pay $5 to watch some games, never $20 – even if the Rangers were about to win the cup. I wonder if they also play commercials during the live stream?

I’ve been using NHL Game Center all season. It’s like $20 or $30 a month. What benefit do you get by paying $20 for one day worth of programming? Extra viewing angles? Not *that* important.
I dropped cable, so this is still cheaper than a cable subscription and an NHL pass.
Now I just hope the Flyers can stay in there!
Also, they do stream the commercials when you use Game Center.
