Is Ning a Porn Facilitator?

NingCPM Advisors is reporting, based on some analytics analysis they completed, that some of the largest social networks built on the Ning platform are adult-oriented. Pornoworld Pomworld and GirlOnGirl both receive over 3.5% of the traffic to Ning overall on the x.ning.com domain. Some Ning customers use full domain names so that traffic isn’t reported by CPM Advisors.

Valleywag has some additional commentary on the findings including, "Ning’s terms of service do not forbid pornographic content, so no rules are being broken here, it seems." Valleywag has a full list of the top porn networks on the Ning platform.

And don’t forget, the Playboy University social network is built on the Ning platform as well – though nudity is strictly prohibited. Probably why no one is using it.

We also reported on Scribd and their porn documents as well back in October.

  1. Using the word facilitator may be a bit strong here. I do not see Ning doing anything to promote the development of adult social networks. Yes, they can be created and yes, ning is not blocking that. Adults will be adults, and the fact is that a large portion of email traffic, im traffic, web image traffic, and social networks are focused on looking at, getting, or talking about sex.

I believe the proper spelling is: “Oh noes!”

Poor porn people. They were perfectly happy in their little nude, twisty corner of Ning. Now they’ll become visible and the Very Loud Peopleā„¢ are going to be screaming to get rid of them.

Personally I say leave them there. It’s not like they’re busting into other communities (pun intended) and trying to solicit all the teens on Ning to their dirty, dirty ways.

Everyone needs to receive a News Flash – there is FREE PORN on the Internet. Period. If you don’t like it, keep your husband/wife/kids away from it. Maybe if you let your husband/wife rent the flicks off of the TiVo or DVR they wouldn’t be sneaking around online in the first place.

If it’s the kids you’re worried about…supervise ‘em. (Such a novel concept, no?)

Note: “You” and the use of “Your” in this comment do not mean you personally. It’s the general “lets run with torches cause Frankenstein is over there” You I’m referring to :-)

Clearly, no one writing any of these stories actually visited any of those sites (which I just did). There are a few porn sites in the list that ValleyWag gives, but not PornoWorld or GirlOnGirl.

First of all, it’s POMOworld, not PORNOworld (where POMO = Post-Modern). (Same with the 4th site on the list – POMO not PORNO). Second, “GirlOnGirl”, while a decidedly suggestive name, is hardly a pornographic site.
