NY Tech Meetup Recap Part I - Changing the Present and DigiCash - w/video
Tonight was the latest installment in the NY Tech Meetup series. Eight startups presented and I will post them in batches of two. I wish I could have attended the Google party but alas, I guess if you don’t make crazy stock predictions, they don’t let you in. So I had to "settle" for reviewing a great batch of new Web apps.
ChangingThePresent
ChangingThePresent is a facebook app (the Web site was already live) which allows you to send those $1 gifts to friends but make them more meaningful. Some other notes:
- They think of their app as a donation portal
- Donations are tax deductible
- I am guessing this only works in the U.S.
- It took two months to build the Facebook app
- There are several hundred donation possibilities
- Even if you aren’t interested in donating, the founders ask you to add the app (link) so that it can get some viral-ness going
Digicash
Digicash appears to be some sort of online wallet that you can use both as input and output from stores that are Digicash certified. I thought the presentation was lacking as the presenter seemed to assume we know all about his app. You can check out the video below.
