OffManhattan Offers Car-Free Getaways Near NYC
At the MTA developer conference earlier this week, Vince Crossley, the co-founder of travel application OffManhattan provided a demo showing how their service works with the available MTA transit data. OffManhattan describes their service as, “…the only online resource for destinations off the island that are reachable without a car. oM exists to promote a “greener” mode of life while providing readers with a getaway train, bus, subway, bike, or bridge to anywhere but here.”
I was very glad to hear about OffManhattan as I have been looking for a weekend getaway for a while now. I don’t have a car and love taking public transit so I just might be able to find a place to explore using the service.
OffManhattan is setup in a blog format and has a variety of content categories including: dining, nightlife, arts, entertainment, weekend getaways and news. There’s also a map that shows all of their stories and location suggestions which gives you an idea of locations that might be of interest.
They have setup a guide for last-minute Mother’s day suggestions and a directory of places to find Poutine in NYC (which apparently is some brew of fries slathered in gravy and cheese curds. Eh?
