So, that being said, I can pretty much guarantee that there will be sites that start popping up featuring the "hot" new colors. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but when you have too many people trying to do what's new, hot and trendy then you get overkill and it becomes cliche very quickly. As someone who has been designing web sites for years now I can say that we are always looking for a bit of inspiration from other sources. The only issue I can see happening with this senerio is the once the trend is gone and you have your companies/website colors are you going to change them for the new trend.
