PHP Developer

Purpose of the Role
Works within the New Geographies team and interfaces with Project Management, Creative, US Blogsmith team and Editorial teams to build modules and to setup new blogs on AOL’s Blogsmith platform.

Accountabilities
1. Provides Front-end Web Production function within EU New Geographies
2. Transfers current US knowledge around Blogsmith to Europe and enables AOLE to setup blogs independently from US resources
3. Develops modules or enhances modules for Blogsmith platform. This includes modules or functionality that is based on 3rd party or AOL APIs. This means, the person need a in-depth knowledge how to turn raw data from APIs into functional modules.
4. Keeps current on the industry trends and is exploring serving as a technical resource within EU Business Expansion.
5. Demonstrates an advanced understanding of web presentation technologies and their application and suitability for use within a commercial online environment. The knowledge should be focused on PHP, open widget standards, JavaScript/AJAX, XML/XSLT, HTML, CSS, Flash/Flex and utilization of API. AIR and JSON/FUJAX experience is an advantage.
6. A good general knowledge of systems design / architecture with an understanding of the need for scalability and maintainability in design
7. Ability to evaluate business requirements and effectively identify technical implications and possible solutions, and to be able to translate / document in a format suitable for use by a development team
8. Experienced in site optimisation including standards based approaches to technical delivery, with particular attention to accessibility, performance optimisation and search engine optimisation
9. Demonstrates a creative and agile approach to solving technical problems / challenges
10. Be familiar with and able to work within an agile development methodology

Scope
1. Candidate should be able to make technical decision independently, backed by professional experience2. Candidate should be able to transfer requirements into technical language and to leverage AOL or 3rd party APIs to achieve requested functionality3. Candidate should be strong in delivering prototypes and test implementations4. Candidate should be able to consult Product Management w.r.t. Web 2.0 technologies

Qualification: Knowledge, Experience, and Skills
Education/Qualifications1. Computer Sciences based Degree or equivalent experience.2. In depth knowledge and application of JavaScript, CSS, HTML, DHTML, XML, XSLT, AJAX, PHP and software development, preferably in an Agile environment3. Flash Scripting; Flex knowledge, AIR and JSON/FUJAX experience is an advantage
Experience, Specialist Knowledge & Skills (Technical & Functional)1. Detailed experience of the industry2. Detailed knowledge of web technologies and their implementation within a commercial, audience focused organisation 3. Training experience, either within technical discipline or across ‘soft skills’ training disciplines, yet not a mandatory requirement4. Participation
