I agree, I think the per brand charge might be the way to go as you suggest. I enjoyed your presentation at H&F(second time I've seen it). Feels like you have made a lot of progress since I saw you at nytech!

I am all for charging a fair amount - my service isn't free either. I think the way to simplify the pricing is just to charge per user or per brand per month. Then you can easily just buy the number you need. I haven't spent days working up a model for Postling but I think it will help them bigtime if they can simplify the pricing. You don't want to go into a sales pitch with an agency (of which I've been at a number of the largest), win them over and then get boggled down with the pricing model.

With traction bigger companies will notice their growth via API calls and hopefully continued good press.

As per their pricing model, the copy needs to be simplified but at 25$ a user or brand it really isn't that bad for an agency. If they are just handling one brand for a company, I figure they eat it - it will save an employee enough time per month to pay for itself. Otherwise you can push the 25$ to the client. The kind of brand that needs that level of attention is going to be a big account and won't balk over 25$.

Thanks, that's perfect, Allen. I agree on simplification. One of the reasons we love being in NYC is that we are close to so many potential customers - PR firms, digital agencies, digital media companies, etc.

Thanks again for the writeup!

My biggest suggestion is to simplify that pricing page. I just went through a simplification process on my startup and it has provided a nice increase in sales.

Thanks for the edit - I will change from Posterous to Drupal.

Please have another look at what I wrote regarding the pricing - if it's not right, I can edit but I think I have it now :)

good point however I think they need to be closer to the services so that the services will pimp them as well. I do agree that education will also take time and a lot of effort. And even for the most "social mediash" of agencies, $250 or more a month still might be tough to justify as they would need to push that cost to their end brands/customers. We will see - I think they will do well.

I think New York is a fine place for them. They are closer to their biggest potential customers(agencies and companies with multiple brands) than they ever would be from the valley. They just use social media company APIs. Their biggest problem will be educating their customers on why it is useful and how it speeds up work flow.

Hi Allen,

A couple of corrections for your blog post (and thanks for the writeup and video!).

1. Although we do not support Posterous, we do support Drupal.
2. The licensing works like this: you get 3 licenses for free, which can be 1 user managing 2 brands or 2 users managing 1 brand. A "brand" is a group of accounts - blogs, twitter, facebook, flickr, as many as you wish. If you need to manage more brands or add more users, you can buy 10 licenses for $250/month. Soon we will be selling individual licenses for $30/month, and we can get people set up on that manually in the meantime.

So if you have 3 people managing 5 clients, you'll want 8 licenses. If it's just you, you can add as many social media accounts as you wish, all for free.

Thanks!
