Speaking for myself, I completely agree and I feel the start-page market is by no means a zero-sum game.

Different approaches appeal to different people, and what suits the discerning tastes of the &#039;bleeding edge web2.0 crowd&#039; is not necessarily going to suit my 58 year old mother.  This is particularly true in this environment where &#039;configurability&#039; (sadly not a real word) is proportional to complexity.  Some people want to be able to tweak everything, others just want something that works simply (though that&#039;s not to say that Bubbletop is a simple or &#039;lite&#039; product).

I would particularly stress the emphasis upon the unique social features of this proposition - recommendations from friends is far stronger than those generated by collaborative filtering techniques and content analysis. It is this concept Orange have really tried to tap into that sets Bubbletop apart from other plays in this area.

We still have some way to go before we launch, and your suggestions about the design are useful feedback (as it happens the site has been designed by a design team - but it&#039;s interesting that the look/feel is not to your taste).  A lot of the
