Schmedley has schmidgets – their campaign should be… got Schmidget?
I have been checking out a pretty new start page offering from Schmedley. So far, my favorite has been yourminis in this space. While yourminis is a completely flash-based environment, Schmedley is a Javascript-based environment. I have to give it to Schmedley as this absolutely looks like Flash. It feels so mac-based it's scary!
I like the site a lot. You can tell they put a lot of time into the widgets (called Schmidgets) and it is easy to see how they monetize the site. They have some ads along the right plus affiliates on Amazon and the travel partners.
The Schmidgets I like the best are the search and the travel. The search shows results from the big engines at one time and the travel shows results from Expedia, Howire, etc. What I would like to see is a way to use these widgets on my site.
My buddy Molly at Screeniac has a great video demo of Schmedley. I like how she says Schmidgets :) I bet the people at the office have fun saying their name!
Schmedley gets two thumbs-up from me. So yourminis now has a challenger. It will be interesting to watch where the start pages go this year.

I will say, that I was VERY impressed with Schmedley, but very unimpressed with their name ;) Anyways, the site is fluid, and smooth. Wow does it work nice. No extra plugins needed, no flash needed. I have no need for a start page myself, both it is a very nice application. I really do think they need a new name. It would take a while for me to remember their name properly.
Yourmini’s is cool too if you like flash. The guys who own and run Goowy and Yourminis are nice too. Their office is just down the hall from mine and I got to briefly meet them once when I was thinking about moving in.
Yea shaxs – I agree – it really is pretty smooth and gives the flash pages a run for their money.
Probably the best looking javascript I have ever seen.
It's also amazing how far a start page has come from the early intranet versions in the late 90s.
