The Seattle Startup Scene is Hot
When I travel to other cities outside my current home base of NYC, I like to see what the startup scene is like. I am in Seattle for a couple of days and from what I can tell, just like the weather Seattle has a hot startup scene. I posted an interview with TeachStreet and last night I attended a small meetup with a good local discussion as well.
Some good sites to keep up-to-date with the startup happenings in Seattle include Seattle 2.0 and Npost. Seattle has Amazon and Microsoft but also has loads of new and growing startups. I heard from a few people that companies here are “working” as opposed to the valley where it seems play comes first many times. Same line I hear from startups in NYC.
There are a good number of startup events including networking and pitch-type events. The community seems very tight as well – something I wish was stronger in NYC. Apparently the weather is a big selling point for Seattle although this week it’s been much more like Atlanta than Seattle.
Seattle 2.0 has a good startup directory and some of the startups we’ve covered include Wetpaint, Zillow, 43 Things, Redfin, Pixsy, Earth Class Mail and that new cheeseburger site.
I look forward to returning to Seattle and spending more time learning about the startup environment here.

Were you really surprised? :)
Glad to see you enjoyed your Seattle time.
You can also find a hub of activity at Social Media Club Seattle (I am a director) @ SMCseattle.com or http://twitter.com/smcseattle
If you are ever in town again, I would be happy to hook up with you!
