Extraordinary PHP Engineer Wanted
Speedypin.com is seeking a full-time, permanent programmer who loves to write PHP, with significant LAMP stack experience (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), and who can lead a small, motivated team. Experience at a B2C ecommerce firm preferred.

You will help the company launch new products, enabling low cost international telecom, and build the infrastructure necessary to support a channel partners marketing strategy. Such projects include the implementation of a content management system and moving the company away from legacy architecture toward a web services model.

Our roadmap requires the rapid implementation of many features and provides the opportunity to “own” the projects that will make a measurable and immediate impact on Speedypin’s success. Equity bonuses are available for great results.

Who is Speedypin?
For 10 years Speedypin has been a growing and profitable prepaid calling card retailer. Calling cards are a simple technology, but have been an influential factor in radically reducing the cost of international long distance.

As the calling card market has matured, we are forging new growth in similar but more sophisticated prepaid telephony products. Although small (15 employees) our deep roots in prepaid telecom allow us access to pricing and technology to compete successfully with even vastly larger VoIP services such as Skype and Jajah.

We’re majority owned by a private equity group capable of supporting our growth, but it’s worth noting that we have real revenue (and real profits!) and have successfully capitalized out of earnings throughout our history. We are among the top five or six “pure online” calling card retailers, in terms of revenue.

For the right person, there is a window of opportunity to do big things in a brief period.

Location
We are located in suburban San Diego County. You must be a local candidate or willing to relocate.

Skills you need to succeed
• Intimate familiarity with PHP 5 and MySQL—at least 5 years experience.
• The habit of documenting your code carefully.
• Experience developing APIs and comfortable developing core systems with a service oriented architecture.

Background/Traits Desired
• Our ideal candidate will be someone who understands that good graphic design, as well as good code, is essential to successful online retailing and channel support.
• Someone who embraces AJAX and service-oriented architecture.
• Someone who understands that speed to market is often vital for a retailer’s success, which means that perfect code be rendered worthless when really good code could have beat the competition and captured the revenue.
• Our market is very competitive and, as in all businesses, some days are likely to be better than others—we like to work with people whose optimism helps them (and everyone around them) keep pounding away even on the rough days.
