Skype down?
Anyone else with Skype down? For me, it's been down since at least 5am eastern. I have another report out of Switzerland that it's also down there. The Web site is not loading as well.

UPDATED 14:02 GMT: Some of you may be having problems logging into Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue. We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Additionally, downloads of Skype have been temporarily disabled. We will make downloads available again as quickly as possible.

I experienced Skype down also, since about 11:00GMT until now (15:00GMT)
10 am CST, skype is down here also. I got signed in once or twice but I am offline and the skype website won’t load.

What is it with human beings and technology. Why is ICT so unrealiable. Anyway I’ve been down since gmt 0800 hrs. Skyp is brilliant when it works properly but when it doesn’t thank god for my BT line!

I’m in UK and it’a been down since I’ve been online (from 8am this morning).
There has been the odd time throughout the day when it has connected - at one point it said 830,000 (ish) users connected - the lowest I’ve ever seen!
Clearly they are having issues……

Skype is connecting properly for few minutes here and there, but its been down for most part of the morning.
It’s connected now though.. 2 minutes and counting.

Skype has been down all day here (Thursday). Thought it was linked to a Microsoft security download for Mac this morning but seems to be general. Difficult to get the help page and the reporting page too.
A day without skype is awesome. No one disturbing you all day long.
Would be great to get the scoop at skype forum but that seems to be down too. Has the bubble finally popped. Ok a slight over reaction:)

Ack.. I use skype for all my IM, this is painful.
I have been using Jangl for voice calls, I like that you can do VOIP without using your computer
I thought it was a problem with my pc (a conflict perhaps) so I downloaded it again (yeap downloads are working fine).
Perhaps the biggest Skype outage ever…

Guess this is why all of my Telecom friends keep telling my Skype is not ready for Prime time…at least here in the US…as a replacement for significant portions of traditional dialtone. They must be having a party over at AT&T and all of the other LECs and CLECs.
It will be interesting to hear what people using it for business think.
I just bought a Linksys CIT400 hand set. I was just about to raise he11 on linksys phone support. You saved them from a firm talking too.

It DOES come up occasionally only to drop a few seconds later. 19:41 EST. This makes me so angry I want to stand on the corner and brandish a knife at the passerbys’. Just kidding. Skype is down in Kardjali, BULGARIA too. I am experiencing the problem since yesterday, 16th august.
What do you expect from a free service? There is no SLA.
If you want service, you’ve got to pay for it in some way.

heartbeat.skype.com now tells of recovery. However, I am still having difficulties logging on and maintaining my sessions (when I do get logged on once in a while).

Hello all,
Here’s the latest on the sign-on problem. We’re on the road to recovery. Skype is stabilizing, but this process may continue throughout the day. An encouraging number of users can now use Skype once again. We know we’re not out of the woods yet, but we are in better shape now than we were yesterday.
Finally, we’d like to dispel a couple of theories that we are still hearing. Neither Wednesday’s planned maintenance of our web-based payment services nor any form of attack was related to the current sign-on issues in any way.
We’ll update you again as soon as we can. Thanks for hanging tight.
