Snacksby Review
Snacksby offers the following overview on their web site (http://www.snacksby.com):
Snacksby is a different, easier kind of recipe site. You tell us what you've got in your fridge, in your pantry, or just what you're looking to find in a recipe, even how much of each ingredient and wham!, we let you know what your options are
First Impressions
How many times do you open your fridge and say, "What do I do with all of this crap?" Well, now you will know what to do with it. Snacksby's tagline is, "like macgyver, but for food". So the basic idea is that you type in what you have, and it returns what you can make with these products.
Signup
Basic signup, they allow you to pick a username and enter an e-mail address. No confirmation needed.
Service Usability
I found Snacksby to be a fun site. A few giggles were had reading the content and the wordplay they use across the site. For example, the definition of creamed corn is, "Canned cream corn is corn that is creamy." LOL. From what I can tell, if you enter two items, it will find any recipes that include either of those items. I put in spaghetti and "Ghetto Spaghetti" came up. What I would like to see is a counter of the number of recipes in the database. Overall, I found Snacksby to be fun and entertaining while also useful. Now I won't have to wonder what to do with my leftover beef, tomato or rhubarb.
What would I like to see added to Snacksby
- Remove some of the green highlighted items, on some pages, almost everything is highlighted!
- Just make the e-mail address the login, makes life easier
- What about a Snacksby mailing list?
Final comments
Snacksby gets 2 thumbs-up for coolness. The design is pretty cool and so is the idea. For Snacksby to continue to grow, the number of recipes in the database must also continue to grow.
