Snap previews are no more… no no don’t get so excited… Snap Shots launches
Snap, the service which created previews of web site links on a blog or site has been discontinued. There has been tons of flack about these previews and most bloggers appear not to like them. They have continued to make changes to the program which is great as they have been listening to user feedback. First every link had a preview, then you could customize which links had previews, etc.
Today they launch Snap Shots which is basically the same feature but for specific URLs. They include the following "Shots":
- WikiShot
- StockShot – is this real time?
- MovieShot
- VideoShot
- ProductShot – does this keep my AmazonID?
- PhotoShot
- AudioShot
- PreviewShot – this is all other web sites
So it does appear that with the rebranding you can still preview any web site. I like the idea of this for the "shots" but wonder if you can use everything but the preview shot, or select the shots that you wish for your site. I have pinged the Snap team and will report back.

Thanks for the mention and review. I believe our customer support got back to you re: your questions, but for the benefit of other readers…
- StockShots have the typical 15-20 minute delay.
- We do not modify the destination URL. So if your links contain Amazon affiliate info, it will be passed along when the user clicks through.
- Currently we do not support selectively turning on/off specific shots via the head javascript snippet. You can achieve the desired effect by choosing the “selective” implementation described in Snap Shots FAQ… it just takes a little more work on your end. Without making any guarantees, I will bring your request to the product team to see if we can implement support for an “easier” way to selectively opt in/out of specific Shots. At the end of the day, it’s all a balance between ease-of-use and usefulness…
Cheers.
