Soapadoo Review
Overview from Soapadoo
Soapadoo offers the following overview on their web site (http://soapadoo.com):
I have found that the reviews that matter to me are the ones written by the people I know personally. If I know the reviewer's biases, interests, character, or areas of expertise, then their opinions about a product or service mean so much more to me than those of the unknown reviewer. On Soapadoo, it's cinchy to connect to the people I care about. Then when I search or browse, I can easily see whether the person writing a particular review is a directly connected friend or a friend of a friend.
First Impressions
The idea with Soapadoo is that you can write reviews and add a network of friends who can "trust" the review.
Signup
Kudos for the e-mail account verification. Really just need a name and e-mail to signup.
Service Usability
Bottom line, Soapadoo is a reviews site. The site includes reviews of Propel Fitness Water to Banana Boat Sunblock to a bad dry cleaner in North Carolina. After you login, writing a review is very easy, just a thumbs up/down and a box for the review. You can also add a link to Amazon if the product is sold on Amazon. After you write a review, you can check out other reviews and then add the reviewer as a "friend". This will allow you to see their reviews. You can also browse reviews, but there is no categorization so basically its just a mis-mash of reviews all together. While the review creation process is very easy, adding a few more requirements would make the site 100-200x more useful. Simple things like a category, date of review, numeric rating, etc. would be good additions.
What would I like to see added to Soapadoo
- Need a categorization engine – once the number of reviews grow, must have categories
Final comments
Overall, I like the idea. The concept is similar to Reevoo whereby you will "trust" the reviews of your friends more than reading a review on Amazon or Shopping.com. For Soapadoo to be a success, they need to add categorization of reviews and also get more people posting! People love to stand on a soapbox and with some marketing, Soapadoo could become a big winner!
