Staples Down on Black Friday
Allex - November 27th, 2009
Online deal hunters are a bit upset that the online website for office supply store Staples is down and not functioning on the busiest shopping day of the year. Staples is my favorite store in the world and I was hoping to score a Logitech illuminated keyboard which was supposed to be reduced from $80 to $30.
There’s no doubt the Staples website is getting hammered with people looking for deals ranging from computers to printers to even the most basic paper clip.
The site is providing the following error message:
An error occurred while processing your request.
Reference #102.d148453f.1259320024.0
For now, eat your breakfast and get your credit cards ready to shop, shop, shop.
Update 7AM Eastern: Staples is back – that was easy!

Me too!!! 5:50am MST ordered a laptop, no errors, checked out fine with a total and tax. Didn’t receive a confirmation until 10:35am that I had no freaking laptop. I buy everything from Staples…now I may go elsewhere. Not up for these games. Press your da*m easy button Staples.

Mike I would give Staples a call. I thought I had HP also until they sent me the Email saying they canceled my order. You did order it earlier than I did. I got mine closer to 6:30 so you might not be in the same situation that I’m in.
I was able to get through and order the $399 HP laptop around 5:30 AM CT after getting the error described above numerous times. I got an initial order confirmation but now it’s 14 hours later and I still haven’t got an email confirming the order (it says it normally takes about 15 minutes). My account says the order is “processing” and still has to verify credit payment, etc. I’m assuming it went through but I’m a tad worried.
I ordered one of the BF $399 HP laptop from their website this morning. I got through checkout, completed the transaction (the credit card was processed), got an order # showing the HP laptop, and 3.5 hours later I got an Email saying that my order was canceled because they were out of stock.
Thank you for choosing Staples. We apologize for the inconvenience but the following product you were trying to order is sold out.
832349 HP DV6-1334US LAPTOP
This was part of our Thanksgiving Holiday 2009 Early Bird Specials and is subject to the following conditions:
* While Supplies Last.
* Unable to Back Order, as this product will not be re-stocked.
* Unable to provide comparable product at special pricing.
And…. They are “down” again. 11:40 am CT and their site is telling me “Oops, you’re too early.” It says the site will be available at 6:00 am ET.
Obviously, they are having problems and are likely to loose a lot of money to other retailers due to this issue.
UGH! I ordered a laptop, and it took me all the way through checkout, shows I ordered something, but the total is 0.00. It doesn’t show the laptop on my order detail, and my credit card has a charge of 0.00 on it. They had better either process that order, or offer a suitable rain check!
Unf–king believable!!! Sorry but I had to use your website to vent…I’m at the point of checkout and the site just won’t move…mother f–kers! I have no doubt that it is on purpose to deflect the first wave of people away…mother f–kers….what a f–king waste.
