Symbian Goes After iPhone Developers
by Allen Stern on June 8th, 2009
After walking past the Moscone Center where the Apple WWDC is being held, I noticed the sign below outside a coffee shop. It is from Symbian – they are having a “hackathon” in San Francisco this afternoon. They are pushing hard to get iPhone developers to switch to Symbian. It appears if you show up you get a free Nokia phone. In addition, they are offering free food and video games — what more could a developer want?

well I would turn up just to get the phone and then flog it on ebay :p
I am doing support for Ipsec VPN on multiple platforms and Apple makes it dead simple to install VPN profiles: you just need to browse to the file and click install, that’s it. Compare to that installing VPN on Symbian is a nightmare with app signature, policy definition etc. …
A free phone doesn’t offer enough incentive for developers to switch, imo. They definitely want more than that.
Who will use a Symbian phone when he can use an iPhone? I would never switch back to a Symbian phone. As a developer I can say that the AppStore is the best you can get and the 70% split is fantastic. You never get that split elsewhere in the gaming industrie – and I know what I am talking about!
Why does all the cool stuff happen on the west coast…nevermind.
