First Students, Now Amazon Launches Amazon Mom

by Allex - September 8th, 2010

amazonThis summer Amazon launched a program for college students named Amazon Student which provides a central portal for products geared towards college students. The big benefit of the program is free Amazon Prime membership which provides two-day shipping for free and overnight shipping for $3.99 on nearly anything Amazon sells.

Yesterday Amazon launched Amazon Mom – a program geared towards parents and caregivers (and yes Dads can register). Amazon explains, “Amazon Mom is a free membership program aimed at helping parents and caregivers, from the prenatal days through the toddler years, use Amazon to find all the products their family needs.”

The Amazon Mom program provides two main benefits:

  • Free Prime shipping subscription – starts with three months free and a month is added each time the Mom customer orders more than $25 in a single order.
  • Up to a 30% discount on diapers and wipes

As a side note, I’ve been watching diapers deals as of late and the discussions on the deal boards seem to indicate Amazon has the best pricing – plus you don’t have to drag those huge boxes and bags home from the grocery store.

The free Prime shipping trial is applicable to any Prime-eligible product – not just baby products.

Where did the Amazon Mom name come from? Amazon explains, “we chose this name because we noticed moms in social communities (like our Amazon discussion boards) looking to connect and share information about products and problems with other moms. We wanted a name that would let these groups know that this program was created with their unique needs in mind.”

I wonder which group Amazon will target next???
