Website creation company Brightegg is announcing the launch of a private label content management service (CMS) today. Fees for the white label service vary based on number of clients and size of sites. Brightegg notes on the private label product, "With Brightegg PL, interactive design firms can offer a full-service solution for their clients, including hosting and email."

Most small interactive agencies are using either Drupal or Joomla for their client’s CMS needs. Drupal and Joomla have nearly infinite expansion capabilities.

My guess is that the Brightegg service will work well for basic clients with basic needs but the ability to scale the technology might be more difficult to sell. I could see it working for an indie developer working with local shops looking for a basic Web 2.0 Internet presence.

Brightegg CEO Jim Kieffer provided the following system features:

• Intuitive editing and administrative tools
• Smart form building and data collection
• Newsletters, RSS feeds, blogs and podcasts

I have contacted Kieffer for his view on the comparison with Joomla/Drupal and will report back once I get the info.

Drupal/Joomla are both great products. Brightegg, however, is targeted to interactive design firms who don’t want to worry about developing, coding and hosting sites. Companies that sign on to use Brightegg PL are focused on great design, but also want to offer their clients a easy-to-use web-based CMS. Because we are a hosted solution, our partners don’t have to worry about updates or plugins.
