Web 2.0 vs. IT
Every conference I attend that is based around Web 2.0 (or the Web in general), there is never a mention of the term, "Information Technology."
No matter whether you define Web 2.0 by a technical definition or my soft definition, isn't it part of IT?
I think what happened is that IT is considered yesterday's technology. The mainframes, the client/server apps, the tech support, the deskside support, the help desk, etc.
And so today, we want to remove the stigma of "yesterday" with today's web. I think it is great that the Web has broken away from the IT realm into a new area and a new technology grouping. There really are very few similarities (except for using a computer) between IT and Web/Web 2.0.
Also, Web 2.0 is really embracing more than just technology. It is about socialization, networking, business, marketing and IT just can't cut it.
So is IT dying while Web 2.0 is thriving?
