Lessons Learned: From Weekend Project to Seven Month Upstart
For Jaxified, what started a weekend project turned into a 7 month journey to try and build a real business. Everyone always says start-ups are hard, but very few people tell you why they’re so hard. It’s been an incredibly emotional journey, and we only just launched! My co-founders and I are really excited about how far we’ve come and we wanted to share some of our story and what we’ve learned because of it.
An idea becomes a weekend project
Every start-up starts with an idea, and people say the best start-ups come from a need. That’s how Jaxified started. Being bloggers ourselves, and working for a blog network, my co-founder Joe tried to find a tool to see who had linked to us over time.
Google Search was not bad, and showed you who was linking to you right now. Google Analytics was great for seeing who had sent you traffic, but there wasn’t an easy way to see who was linking to your blog, and what impact that link might have. For example, a link from the AOL or MSN home page, or from a prominent Twitter user, is something we should brace ourselves for. Then he said the line that every aspiring entrepreneur loves to hear: “How does this not exist yet?”
