CNup in San Francisco This Weekend/Monday
I will be in San Francisco this weekend and Monday and would love to get a meetup (known forthwith as CNup) scheduled. We could either do a brunch on Saturday morning or a more traditional meetup on Monday evening. I am working on getting valley superstar startup blogger Louis Gray to attend in his new sweet ride (1 mile rides will be available for $20).
I am staying in downtown San Francisco but am willing to travel for best results. So if you are interested in meeting, shooting some startup videos and rapping about other tech blogs, leave your thoughts on local and preferred time in the comments.
Also – should you decide to place an order with my startup, bring your business cards with you to the CNup and grab a cool bonus 20% extra cards for your order.
What’s Up Seattle?
I will be in Seattle from Monday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon this week attending the Search Marketing Expo and would love to meet some Seattle-based startups. Send me an email if you’d like to meet (myfirstname – at – centernetworks.com)
I am looking forward to traveling from the airport to the hotel on the Seattle city bus system for a travel report on InsideTransit. I assume a trip to the top of the space needle is also a requirement for a first-timer to Seattle? Any other suggestions on must-do touristy-type Seattle-area excursions?
If there is interest, we could do a meetup on Tuesday evening – leave a note if you are interested. Also please suggest some locations — preferably in downtown Seattle. Garage has pool tables – perhaps I could bring my Brooklyn game and school ya’all!
Fun fact: The Space Needle elevators weigh 14,000 pounds each with a capacity of 4,500 pounds. The counter-weight weighs 40 percent more than the elevator fully loaded. Each elevator carries 25 people. Two of the Space Needle elevators are high speed and can travel at a rate of 10 mph, or 800 feet per minute. Actual travel time from the ground level to the top-house is 43 seconds.
NY Tech Meetup Organizer Candidates: The Presentations (videos)
Tonight at the NY Tech Meetup, 10 candidates presented their platforms in the hope that you will vote for them on Thursday. Current organizer Scott Heiferman will have all of the details about voting and the official videos on Wednesday but I thought I’d post my videos now so you can start thinking about who you will vote for. I randomized the names so they do not appear in the order in which they presented. To learn more about the candidates, view their information on the Meetup website.
NYConvergence has a text recap with notes from the event. Jason Adler posted his thoughts from the presentations.
Couple notes: this page is huge with 10 video players so give it a minute to load. Richie Hecker presented via video and after his presentation, IAC didn’t turn the stage lights back on so a couple of the presentations are a bit dark.

Good Luck to the NY Tech Meetup Candidates!
Tonight the 11 candidates running to replace outgoing NY Tech Meetup organizer Scott Heiferman will present their platforms. You can learn all about the 11 candidates on the NY Tech Meetup message board. Also check out Scott’s video presentation on the future of the Tech Meetup from last month.

New York Tech Meetup: Declare Your Candidacy By December 2
A quick reminder that if you plan to run for the New York Tech Meetup organizer position, you must do so by midnight on December 2. Current organizer Scott Heiferman explains how the process will work, "We’ll elect a new Organizer on 12/11 after Candidates give 5-min presentations at our 12/9 Meetup (RSVP 12/3 Noon). Then, with the new Organizer, Dawn (Barber) and I will establish a Board for the NYTM made mostly of other NY tech-related group Organizers. (+ If the new Organizer wants to make it a full-time paid gig, it’s up to her and the Board to figure out how to do so. Self-organized, baby!)"
To apply, post your details on the nomination post on the Meetup forum. My suggestion is to watch the following videos if you plan to apply:
- Scott’s overview of the changes from last month’s meetup
- Video from the discussion about the future of the meetup
- Scott has setup a forum for questions about the process
Future of the NY Tech Meetup Video Presentation
Last night at the NY Tech Meetup, organizer Scott Heiferman and co-organizer Dawn Barber provided an update about the future of the monthly meetup. Scott will be stepping down as organizer and there will be a public vote for a replacement.
There will also be a new board setup for the meetup which will consist of 11 people; 7 people will come from other popular NYC technology meetups, the new organizer plus 3 additional people. Scott noted that more details on the nomination process will be posted later today. Here’s his video about how the process will work:
Video from Meetup Discussion About the Future of the NY Tech Meetup
Last night a special meeting was held to begin discussions on how to shape the future of the NY Tech Meetup. Thanks to Scott and Dawn for organizing the evening and for the very tasty pizza and drinks. I will have a full recap of my thoughts and ideas for moving forward this week. I’ve received a bunch of emails asking about the video so I will post the video now. It’s 1 hour in length and covers the review and discussion of ideas. If you prefer text, all of the notes are listed on the Meetup site.
