AideRSS Takes Social Engagement and RSS to a New Level with the Launch of PostRank.com and Thematic PostRank
Waterloo, Ont. – July 10, 2008 – AideRSS, Inc. today announced the launch of the www.postrank.com website, further establishing PostRank as the industry standard for filtering and ranking online articles, news and blog posts. With the launch of postrank.com also comes the addition of Thematic PostRankTM, which provides an enhanced level of personalization to the RSS experience by offering a deeper level of customized context and social relevancy.
AideRSS released PostRank one year ago to provide RSS subscribers with an easy way to reduce information overload and find and read what matters by ranking stories based on the level of social engagement. A PostRank score of 1 to 10 is applied to each article and instantly indicates a relative measure of engagement with that item across the internet. It allows the reader to infer attributes of social relevancy and influence to what they are reading. In April, AideRSS was excited to announce a partnership with NewsGator, further validating the value of the service through the integration of PostRank with NewsGator’s best of breed NewsGator Online reader.
Now, with the addition of Thematic PostRank, publishers, individuals and developers will get a significantly enhanced user experience through further customization based on themes or topics of personal interest.
"The need for thematic ranking was something we heard consistently from our user base," said Ilya Grigorik, founder and CTO of AideRSS. "We are rapidly executing on our mission to increase the relevance of what users find in their RSS inbox. The launch of Thematic PostRank is the next in a series of many exciting new information management solutions we’re working on."
Thematic ranking allows the user to group posts or stories from different sources based on topics or themes, then ranks those posts against each other based on social engagement using the PostRank algorithm. Now, in addition to being able to filter and rank a group of feeds or news sources against their own individual historical levels of engagement, users can rank posts or stories from different sources, providing a more powerful and targeted indication of social relevance.
Jeff Nolan, Vice President, NewsGator Consumer & Media Services said, "Thematic Ranking in PostRank gives users a more focused and personalized experience. Grouping and ranking posts based on themes of interest allows the kind of customization that takes RSS reading to a new level."
The launch of postrank.com also makes it easier for publishers, individuals and developers to access the benefits being offered to each target audience. "The excellent feedback we received with respect to the AideRSS website in the last 12 months was instrumental in our decision to launch postrank.com," said Ilya Grigorik. "With the service established and the incredible market acceptance we’ve received, we are now looking to turn PostRank into the name brand for RSS filtering and engagement ranking across the internet".

Users can connect with friends, family, and like-minded people by creating and sharing gift registries, wishlists, buyer’s guides, and polls with products found on the site and anywhere on the internet. Industry trend data estimates that an average of 45% of consumers, ages 18 to 51 often share the products that interest them with their peers. 31% of consumers rely on recommendations from their friends and family for purchasing products. Based on this data, Kazowie gives users a unique platform to have the ability to share their impeccable taste with others while discovering online shops and products they never knew existed.

About kazowie.com:
Kazowie.com was conceptualized by David Thomson, a thirty-something who felt constrained by the traditional registry process when getting married. He didn’t like being obligated to only pick from a few department stores—not to mention spending an entire Saturday at the mall. With a baby on the way, he wanted to create a personalized gift registry at a single online address that he could actively share with his friends and family. After surveying similar user-generated shopping websites, David realized there was a niche to be filled. As the principal of a user experience design company, Momentum Design Lab, David turned to his company to create this unique experience. "More and more people’s purchasing decisions are influenced by online product research and by friends and family members. Kazowie can offer simple online tools to keep people connected." What began as an online registry has blossomed into a robust, singular online social shopping experience.

Thomson Reuters Debuts Calais Tagaroo
Easy-to-Use PlugIn Empowers WordPress Bloggers to Reach More Readers
The SemTech 2008 Conference – San Jose, CA – May 19, 2008 – To meet the needs of WordPress bloggers everywhere, Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI; TSX: TRI; LSE: TRIL: NASDAQ: TRIN), the world’s leading provider of intelligent information, has debuted the new Calais Tagaroo plugin for the open source WordPress publishing platform from WordPress.org.
The Calais Tagaroo plugin makes it easy for WordPress bloggers to tag the people, places, facts and events in their blog posts – and add relevant photos from Flickr – to increase their visual appeal and search accessibility on the Web.
The Calais Tagaroo plug in works in the background while bloggers write to automatically generate tags and find related photos for selection, sizing and insertion via an easy-to-use interface. Bloggers are in control, and can add their own metatags along the way. They can also easily prioritize Tagaroo’s image search on Flickr to find the pictures that best illustrate their story.
"Calais Tagaroo brings automated metatagging and real-time photo search to the Web’s most popular blogging platform," said Thomas Tague, Calais evangelist and project lead, Thomson Reuters. "We are extremely pleased to provide this free utility to WordPress bloggers, enabling them to increase their blogs’ search relevance and to benefit from new and emerging semantic services."
The Calais Tagaroo plugin is easy to use. Here’s how it works:
- Bloggers on WordPress 2.3 or above go to Tagaroo.OpenCalais.com to download the plugin and get simple instructions.
- They then go to OpenCalais.com to register for the Calais community and to get a Calais API key.
- Finally, they use the WordPress settings page to paste a copy into their key space, and start drafting their next blog post.
Calais Tagaroo will start working immediately, suggesting tags for more than 100 types of things (people, companies, geographies, and organizations) and events (natural disasters, management changes, stock offerings, etc.). This vocabulary of facts and events will continue to grow every month to cover additional knowledge domains, such as sports and entertainment.
Calais Tagaroo is another component in the growing Calais toolkit. Calais delivers the power of the world’s leading semantic metadata generation service as a free and open Web service with a growing portfolio of plugins, modules and applications. Thomson Reuters and Phase2 Technology Team to Deliver Calais Modules for the Drupal Publishing Platform
New Modules Make it Easy for Drupal Users to Metatag their Content, Increasing Search Relevance and Accessibility on the Web
The SemTech 2008 Conference – San Jose, CA – May 19, 2008 – Thomson Reuters (NYSE: TRI; TSX: TRI; LSE: TRIL: NASDAQ: TRIN) and Phase2 Technology have debuted three Calais modules for integration with Drupal, the open source content management platform that supports a variety of Web sites ranging from blogs and online publishers to large interactive communities.
Calais is Thomson Reuters’ Semantic Web Service that enables publishers to automatically metatag the people, places, facts and events in their content to increase its search accessibility on the Web.
The Calais modules for Drupal are feature-rich, highly intuitive and designed to make it easy for Drupal users to automatically metatag their content, generating rich semantic metadata that can be shared via a simple key and integrated into the larger content universe.
"Calais is a natural fit for our experience implementing Drupal on media and publishing sites," said Jeff Walpole, Managing Partner, Phase2 Technology. "We’ll continue our work on Calais and are excited about the functionality these modules will provide to the news and information business."
"Enabling the Semantic Web is an exciting frontier for the future of the Web and a key opportunity for Drupal," said Dries Buytaert, creator of the Drupal open source project and co-founder of Acquia. "We welcome Calais to our community and encourage its future development."
The modules use the power of Calais to suggest terms for association within a piece of content, similar to how del.icio.us recommends relevant tags. They also enable Drupal users to integrate their own publisher- and user-generated metadata as they go forward, to truly customize their installation.
"We’re extremely pleased to be working with Phase2 Technology to provide Drupal users with everything they need to tap Calais’s rich metatagging capabilities," said Thomas Tague, Calais evangelist and project lead, Thomson Reuters. "The new modules make it easy for Drupal users large and small to launch automated metatagging and take advantage of the Semantic Web."
Availability: The Calais modules for Drupal are available now. To learn more, please visit the Calais section of the Phase2 Technology site. Demos can be found here: http://calais.phase2technology.com/content/calais-demo-screencast.
