Scribblar Lets You Socially Scribble
A new UK-based startup soft-launched last week named Scribblar. Scribblar lets you create a room where you can draw and conference with others on media or audio. It’s basically a social whiteboard and from my testing today, it’s pretty well crafted.
There are options to import media, chat with other participants and add live audio so you can talk through your changes. I found the drawing tools easy-to-use and well placed. You can add extra pages into the whiteboard to document different updates. There’s an option to clear all pages — this really needs a confirmation before clearing – otherwise Scribblar may have some very angry customers. There’s a nice snapshot option which makes an immediate copy and created a png file on the Scribblar servers. Perhaps they can add a PDF/Email option as well.
The best part about Scribblar is how easy it is to invite others to the room. You just grab the URL and paste it into an email or into any social network. So many of these whiteboard apps make inviting others difficult — it’s nice to see that Scribblar has thought about this functionality.
Founder Stefan Richter notes, "Scribblar.com is not meant to be a fully featured web conference solution, but more aimed at integration with existing online tutoring services." He also noted that the service can be white labeled for any agency or company.
Scribblar is free for basic uses and there’s an option to embed it into a Web site or blog for $99/month. This seems high and it will be difficult for upgrade conversions. I’d suggest a tiered pricing model which builds to the $99/month option.
