Here’s a Whole New Crunch
Last year we covered two online calculators, eCalc and Encalc. Today I am back with another calculator, although this time it’s a desktop application. It’s called SpeedCrunch and apparently it’s better than a TI-83+. It’s free and is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
Some of the top features include: unlimited variables, syntax highlighting, automatic completion functions, 50 decimal capability, history, corrections, and keyboard shortcuts. SmartCrunch is offered as open source under the GPL license. I am wondering why they didn’t offer a basic free version and a low-priced upgrade with more functionality (most of what’s listed above). With the Texas Instruments calculators at a pretty expensive price point and laptops on nearly every college student’s desk, SpeedCrunch pro could have been a good alternative.
There’s some good comments on how people are using SpeedCrunch over on Lifehacker.
