PayPerLive Offers Paid Live Streaming
This weekend in my column on InformationWeek, I wondered if we will see ppv-style paid live streaming this year from conferences.
Video community site Stickam has launched a new tool which provides paid live streaming. We originally covered Stickam last year at SXSW where we met with the team for a video demo. The new service is named Payperlive and allows video broadcasters to charge viewers a fee to watch a live stream of an event.
Payperlive charges broadcasters a monthly fee plus they take a share of the ticket price. There’s a $50 setup charge and then pricing ranges from $19/25% serviceĀ fee to $79/15% service fee. The tool appears to use the Stickam interface which can be customized to match the website or blog which is broadcasting the stream.
Browsing the Payperlive service it looks like a great match for one-to-one video streaming (doctor/patient, teacher/student, etc.). I assume the service can handle hundreds of paid viewers at once as Stickam supports Leo Laporte’s show and he uses the Stickam service.
Would you pay a small fee to be able to watch all of the SXSW sessions from home?
