Veotag Acquired by Multicast Media

veotagI reviewed video hosting service Veotag in mid-2007 and liked the service. What was interesting about Veotag was that you could annotate a video and create jump points directly inside the video. In addition there is the option to display associated documents as the video moves forward. The company also notes that “veotags” are searchable by Google and the other search engines.

First reported by Dan Rayburn last week, Veotag has officially announced that the service has been acquired by Atlanta-based Multicast Media today. Financial terms of the acquisition weren’t released. Multicast self-reports they serve over 50,000 live video streaming events yearly.

Veotag also notes that you can build content mixes based on search results. They also mention in the release that Veotag content works with all the major audio and video formats, such as QuickTime, Flash, Windows Media, and MP3. It is compatible with both PC and Apple platforms.

Startup Videos Review: veotag

by Allen - May 29th, 2007

veotagToday I will post all of the videos submitted in the Video Startup Opportunity. First up is veotag.

Unfortunately they do not offer embedding of the video so you will need to check this link to view the sample they submitted.

Allen's comments:

The video explanation is narrated by Pierra Francesca. She begins by explaining that she is an actress who was in a scene with Russell Crowe. I don't get why this is important or needed except if the goal is to make her seem more important than "video girl #4504".

She does a good job explaining the product which is basically a way to tag videos in sections and then offer the ability to link to a specific section within the video, called a "veotag". Their mantra is to "publish video effectively" and I think it looks and works very well. Creating a veotag menu is easy and I can see where in a videoshow such as Rocketboom this type of tool could be very effective.

It's almost like a hyper version of Viddler with their inline commenting. They need to add commenting if they want to become "social". I think overall the pitch makes a great case for using veotag for publishing video. Especially business video.
