Snooth Partners With Yahoo and Epicurious
NY-based wine resource Snooth has announced the launch of their new food and wine pairings application. I know that merlot goes with chicken and a riesling is perfect for sushi. Honestly I need to use Snooth’s app because I have basically no idea which wines go with which foods.
Snooth also announced that they have partnered with Yahoo and Epicurious. The Snooth food and wine pairings app is offered to users of both sites to perfectly match any listed recipe with the correct wine. The Epicurious partnership brings the Snooth pairings to the 25,000 editor-reviewed recipes. Snooth offers the wines they recommend for sale and shipment.
Snooth notes that the pairings come from a combination of computer and human power. The app looks at the ingredients in each recipe and then offers wine suggestions.
Snooth notes, “My Yahoo! users are now able to peruse thousands of recipes from leading publications such as Food & Wine, Cooking Light, Real Simple and Health, among others, and get automatically generated wine pairings based on each individual dish. The app will also highlight the most popular recipes, pairings, and wines of the day, with links to purchase the corresponding bottle.”

Gary Vaynerchuk’s Park Avenue Motivational Discussion (video)
Tonight the Mashable blog attempted to hold an event where wine man Gary Vaynerchuk was supposed to speak about motivation. There were a baker’s dozen of technical issues so we all moved outside to the corner of 54th and Park Ave. and Gary gave his motivational speech outside.
While I don’t agree with everything he says, it’s worth watching the video. The part where he talks about hustle is very important. So many startups I talk to believe that when they hit "launch" the traffic, orders, users, etc. will just magically arrive. It’s not like that – you need to hustle every minute of every day. When you watch the video, notice what brand you see on Gary’s shirt the whole time – it’s about the hustle.
Here’s his video – enjoy the NYC sounds and note that Gary does use many swear words during his outdoor presentation.
Breaking News: Joanne From RocketBoom Joins Gary From WineLibraryTV
Two of my favorite video bloggers hooked up today on the WineLibrary.TV set. Joanne from Rocketboom joined WineLibrary.TV host Gary Vaynerchuk for the thunder show today. I’ve embedded it below. Joanne really classied up the place — they worked very well together.
Gary is looking for people to join him and he is specifically looking for "Web 2.0 personalities" – send him a note if you are interested. I will throw my hat into the pool and I would totally bring my Giants spitcan. I don’t know a damn thing about wine but I would totally bring the thunder.
Check out my interview with Joanne and our WineLibrary coverage.
The Wine Man Goes Off and Why You Should Care
Last week I was interviewed by Startup or Bust. The question below is copied from the interview and is something I have been asked thousands of times over the past 12 years.
What words of wisdom do you have for someone wanting to jump into a niche that is dominated by one or more heavy hitters?
Get in there! What are you waiting for? The longer you wait, the tougher it is. And remember this saying from the Honeymooners, “Be nice to people on the way up, because you will see the same people on the way down.” Just because a “heavy hitter” is in the lead now, does not mean that they will in a year. So get out there and give it a try! Better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.
The bottom line is that whatever you want to do in life, it's critical to get your body wet. Jump into the deep end. Early in my life I was a wimp and was afraid to jump into the deep end. I would watch the people in the deep end having fun and a good time but I just sat in the shallow end with my floaties. So yes, do it and do it now. Don't worry a lifeguard is only seconds away if needed.
I noticed a highlighted video on Viddler today. It's an episode from Wine Library TV where the host, Gary Vaynerchuk goes off (more than normal) about someone asking about how to tell the different types of wines. I have clipped just the part where Gary explains passionately that the only way to really know which wines taste like x or y is to TASTE THEM. He goes on to explain that you can't be a chef without tasting the food and a few other great examples but rather than tell you what they are, just watch the video below. RSS you might need to click through to watch the video.
Editor's note: While this video might not be exactly related to Web 2.0, I hope it does a good job to motivate you to jump in the pool. And even if it doesn’t, just watch it to see an example of good online video entertainment.
Wine Library TV Updates Design
I was just checking out all of my regular video blogs that I watch, and one of them has updated their design.
Wine Library TV has updated their design with a fresh new design. Frankly, I didn't care for the old design. Things were huge, everything felt very rushed into place and there was no breathing space. The new design is fluid and very much more professional.
Gary is a bit over-the-top in his presentation, but his wine explanations are great. Certainly helps a novice like me and I like how he discusses wines that are inexpensive and those a bit more high-end. Today he brings out the "Oak Monster" and explains a Shiraz as having a large amount of clotted cream in it. I had a chance to meet him at the last Video Meetup in NYC and he claims his video blog is the biggest. The videos use Viddler for the technology.

(side note: interesting use of twitter to launch the site redesign… see, Twitter does have some useful business purposes!)
