Wirenode Review – Easily Create Mobile Websites

by Allen Stern - September 23rd, 2007

WirenodeI met Wirenode’s founder Tomas Zeman at the CenterNetworks San Francisco brunch last Sunday. I immediately realized how genuinely interested he was in my feedback about his product. During his time at TC40, he took me through a demo of Wirenode which is a tool to create mobile Websites. Tomas says his tagline is "Mobile Web Hosting." Tony Dennis has anothe review of Wirenode as well.

It took about five minutes for Tomas to create a mobile version of CenterNetworks. We took the CN RSS feed, plugged it in, changed the name and clicked publish. It’s currently running on their .mobi domain but I can set it up to use anything I want (i.e. m.centernetworks.com). If we use this tool for CN, we would absolutely use a xyz.centernetworks.com domain so we can control what’s shown on it for the long-term.

Here is the list of things you can do on Wirenode (this comes from their Web site):

  • Create mobile websites with multiple pages.
  • Create a simple demo page with one click.
  • Include your images.
  • Include images from Google Image Search.
  • Create a table of content page.
  • Include simple widget on your page.

My suggestion for Tomas is to hire a designer to touch-up some of the site pages. The interface is very easy-to-use and the design is ok, but if it was kicked up a few notches, I believe the service would also move up a few notches. He may also want to hire an editor to review some of the English – again it’s good, but some touchups might might it even better.
