Find a Co-Founder with TechCofounder

Allen Stern - February 14th, 2010

techcofounderOver the three years that I’ve edited CenterNetworks, I’ve received a few requests from people who were looking for co-founders for their startups. Every once in a while similar requests hit the New York Tech Meetup and nextNY groups.

A new service named TechCofounder aims to help developers that want to be cofounders on a startup, find a match on the other side.  The marketplace combines part of Craigslist and part of Match.com to help match talent. Developers (called Coders on the site) can register anonymously similar to Craigslist. Any inquiries from interested parties are routed through a TechCofounder email address. There are about 100 developer profiles listed to-date.

Creating a profile is easy on TechCofounder. There are several required fields and then you can select from a list of skills including programming languages (e.g. c, c++, PHP), frameworks (e.g. cakePHP, Ruby), platforms (e.g. Android, iPhone, MySpace) and industry experience. After the skills, you complete several short answer questions so interested entrepreneurs can start to get a feel for your experience and attitude.

There’s a discussion thread about TechCofounder on HackerNews and the big issue appears to be that you can’t register from outside the U.S.

Looks pretty cool…there’s definitely a need for something like this because Craigslist and similar sites aren’t that effective for connection people like us. I’ll definitely check this out and play around with it. Thanks for sharing Allen
