I’m with you Eric but most people have no idea about how difficult a move like what they’re doing is. I don’t actually know anyone at Technorati but I had to move a large database a while back and we couldn’t keep our small site up during that time ourselves so I’m sure Technorati engineers are simply not sleeping.

What really makes me laugh is how many people simply say “dude, the site’s down WTF” and don’t seem to see the large black status bar on the top of every page that says what they’re doing. Then again, being spiteful and complaining is much easier than thinking critically about what you’re seeing.

Hey guys lets give Technorati a break, I know bunch of guys that work in that tech and with big moves like that it’s very difficult to control what will and won’t happen. Remember, you won’t know until you actually do it, so just give it another week or two.

I am sure they’ll get things fix soon, I am having issues too but we aren’t paying them to keep it up so be patient and enjoy one less task for now.

@Dorion: Thank you for an honest update on what you guys are up to. Most people don’t understand what a pain it is to migrate data and I’m sure you guys have a lot. With so much anger towards Technorati, it’s nice see you post here and be open about the happenings.

Technorati has actually been down longer, more like since Tuesday afternoon your time so a good 48 hours now, heading to 72.

Technorati is over 1/2 way done moving over 600 servers. Believe me, if we could have just shut down for a day and moved everything at once, we would have. However, there is too much to move and we need to free up equipment from the old colo in order to rack and wire equipment at the new colo. We are a small team performing a pretty huge task. We know downtime is bad and hate to impact the people who use our services. A few steps of the move have not gone as planned which forced us to change plans; risky, but necessary.

We appreciate everyone’s patience. We will get Technorati fully back online and indexing blogs. It is our top priority.

I’m done caring about whether or not Technorati ever works again. Even before their recent server move they weren’t updating correctly or timely. I publish 5-6 posts a day yet even with repeated pings Technorati would show that my most recent update was 15 days ago. No one at Technorati seemed interested in replying to emails either.

What’s NOT down at technorati? just about everything I’ve tried to do there for the last 2 weeks has been broken. I have let many Technorati monsters loose. They’re probably hungry too.

Perhaps something to do with all the layoffs not long ago?
