Toggl Review
Overview from Toggl
Toggl offers the following overview on their web site (http://www.toggl.com/):
Toggl is online time and meeting tracking software. It provides users with a secure and convenient way to track their individual and team work hours and meetings.
First Impressions
I have been working on many reviews but this tool really strikes me as something that could have huge potential. If I hire a developer to work on a project for me, I can setup an easy to manage schedule, project and tasks.
Signup
Enter e-mail and the image code (took me 5x to get the code right!?!) and then complete the signup form after receiving the invitation e-mail.
Service Usability
Overall, I would give the service's usability a score of 7/10. Creating projects, tasks and events is easy. But after I create a project, I would like to see it on the left menu for easy access instead of having to access my "workspace" each time. Kudos to the report feature making it easy to see who is handling tasks on time and who is not! You can view past events as a list but I could not figure out a way to view the detail.
What would I like to see added to Toggl
- Friendly names for team members
- Ability to use team members before sending e-mail invites
- Updated left nav with underlined links for increased usability
- A "how-to" video podcast!
Final comments
As I noted above in my initial thoughts, a tool like this has huge potential. With all of the Offshore Outsourcing work in play now, keeping tabs on your resources has become even more important. I like the idea that it is web based and inviting others to a project is as easy as sending an e-mail. Most times basic project management will suffice and a full-scale MS Project implementation is not required. I look forward to seeing increased usability in the tool and I would stamp this one a winner!
