TripAdvisor apparently owns Travel Library which may be their avenue to 2.0

I used to do a bunch a travelling to latin america.. until I moved
here. Now it's like I'm constantly traveling. Paradise.

As for travel sites, Notes from the Road is more my style: big photos and real stories. Show me where I want to go. Hotels, eh, not big on'em anyway.

They need to change their marketing people who don't get it or are not powerful enough to effect the changes that are needed to bring them to the Web 2.5 era. Until they fix their marketing at the highest levels it will not happen.

Sadly, I've never found an online resource that was anywhere near as good as a Fodors/Frommers/Lonely Planet book in terms of information about where to go, what's interesting, where to stay, etc... And I'm a web nut.

TripAdvisor has clearly gone down the road where their priorities diverged with their users-- for them, it's clear that it's about EXTRACTING value (ads, affiliates) than GIVING value (good, up-to-date, trustworthy information).

If I wasn't currently engaged, I'd spin something up to solve this problem... I find the UI of books to be less-than-optimal. ;-)
