Tumblr Down?
It appears that the microblog service Tumblr is currently semi-down as of earlier this morning. Earlier this month several blogs reported Tumblr’s big growth over the past year pushing the microblog service into the Top 50 sites worldwide. I am able to get some pages on Tumblr to load very slowly but most provide time out errors.
A search on Twitter for Tumblr shows some very upset users (some comments NSFW) about the outage. It’s important to remember that all online services will suffer from some unexpected downtime. I am sure the Tumblr team is working hard to get the service back to full network capacity. Until then, go outside and enjoy the heat wave across the U.S.
The official Tumblr Twitter account notes regarding the outage/performance issues, “A faulty network switch is causing severe performance issues. We’re working with our datacenter to get it replaced as quickly as possible.” This was the first and only message regarding the current performance issues – posted at approximately 9am Eastern time.
Update: 3pm Eastern: from my testing, Tumblr sites are still not loading. No new posts on the Tumblr Twitter account.
Update 4:15pm Eastern: I now receive the following error message when loading any Tumblr site, “Sorry! An error has occurred. This incident has been reported, and we will work quickly to correct any issues. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience. Please feel free to contact support if the problem persists.”
Update 5:00pm Eastern: Tumblr is back – you may continue posting photos, browsing porn and reblogging other people’s photos and porn.
As always please report in if Tumblr is down where you are – either the main Tumblr site or your personal Tumblog.

Yay! I just logged on to my Tumblr and even was able to post via my “Share on Tumblr” button. Maybe all of Tumblr is functional now :-)
On the brightside, Everyone should have lots of new photos to upload.
Also down in Sask., Canada. I could load my blag earlier this morning, but now that and the main site only give me “Browser unable to load” messages
tumblr’s been down since early this morning till now here in jersey. i thought it was my sucky computer but i used my friends mac and it’s not loading on it either!
i have a strange feeling this has something to do with the whole Jessi Slaughter shit,,
i miss tumblr ;_;

Tumblr is down but you can still update it through your iPhone/Blackberry/smartphone app if you’ve got one.
I hope it doesn’t like, erase anything on anyones account, because I worked so hard on my
blog, and I would just be completely heartbroken if I had to remake EVERYTHING.

Yeah to everyone commenting on where they live and how the site is also down where they live, it’s not an area problem.
The site is down EVERYWHERE for maintenance.
I’m in Boise, Idaho and I’ve been getting the timed out errors as well as “connection reset” errors. I have even tried my “Share on Tumblr” button on my toolbar and that is timing out too.
Oh my…I guess I will have to put some sunblock on and venture outside or tweet or stumble. I really would prefer tumbling…it’s a lot more fun :-)

I was on it this morning and there was actually a message at the top (center) which said the site will be down soon for maintenance.
No one should worry, they’re just adding a few changes and the site will be up soon for everyone to use again! ^___^

My Tumblr has been down pretty much all day … was able to get it to load once and that’s all … relieved that it’s system-wide and not a hack job. But still hoping it’s rectified soon …

I just joined Tumblr. This morning I was thinking I would take down my content and slap it into a WordPress blog that I host (then it would be my fault when it goes down).
It would be interesting to know how many accounts will be abandoned after hours and hours of downtime like this.
I’d imagine that since Tumblr is a pretty unique product, not many.
I need my blog back!
