This was a relatively quiet week for Google. That can only mean next week will be big! I am looking forward to the Google party next Wednesday in SF. Stock price at Friday closing was: $377.85 down from the 52-week high of: $475.11.

Google News Archive Search Launches

Google has launched a news tool that let's you search major newspapers back 2 centuries -- that's 200 years! A search for "NYC Transit" returns results back to 1859. I am a huge transit buff and it was awesome to read articles from when the system was first designed. This is exactly the kind of thing Google excels at.

Paidcontent.org is reporting that the following partners are included in the initial release:

Google would not state how many publishers were taking part in the new service…but has announced a number of partners including WSJ, NYT, WaPo, Time, Guardian Unlimited, Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, HighBeam Research and Thomson Gale.

There is some discussion around the net about whether political influence will limit the results that are shown. I can't imagine Google blocking any content.

Lastly, many of the linked sources require a subscription fee to access. Perhaps Google could create a master subscription for a nominal fee across all of the listed sources. Just an idea Google!

Subject: Great Idea!

Google should do this afterall isn't this what Cable companies do? A decade ago, I was at a party with Disney CEO Michael Eisner and had the opportunity to share my thoughts about his pay per use subscription model. I told him it had to be free (which it is now). His answer, "Cable companies pay to syndicate Disney"...he went on to talk about the business model of Cable television. Personally, I'd be happy to pay for an upgraded level of Google Services..... Good Idea! Sincerely, Darin Codon Tech Trends
