Ten Ways Dan Uses Twitter
by Allen Stern on December 28th, 2007
Dan York posted a long, indepth article yesterday where he outlines the ten reasons why he uses Twitter and how he uses the tool. Based on my prediction post yesterday, I’ve noted which reasons below are time wasters and which are time savers. Check out his full article as it’s well worth the read.
- Twitter as a news source (time saver)
- Twitter as a knowledge network (time saver)
- Twitter as a virtual water cooler (time waster)
- Twitter as a way to stay up-to-date with friends (time waster)
- Twitter as a travelogue (time waster)
- Twitter as a way to track conferences (time saver)
- Twitter as a marketing tool (time saver)
- Twitter as a learning tool (time saver)
- Twitter as fun (time waster)
- Twitter as a daily lesson in humilit (time saver)
I continue to stand firm that Twitter is half waste of time and half great business tool. It’d be nice to have the option to follow a person only for business, only for personal or both. There are many people I follow that I don’t really care about where they ate or if they took a #2 but their business sharing is worth a lot.

Twitter might be an interesting business tool. But i think the web has lately developed way too many business tools. Do we really need one more? And particularly one with so superficial news (140 characters). I think twitter is a bubble, which will eventually burst.
