Twitterholic launches: are you the ultimate twitterer?

TwitterholicIf you are one of the Twitter-lovers out there (Steve, Robert, Tara, etc.), now there is a place to find out if you are King or Queen Twitter! Twitter is the hot stuff these days and Alex Hillman and Alex Rudloff created a site to help you figure out where you are on the leaderboard.

Called Twitterholic, the site shows you stats about how many friends, followers, updates and favorites you have. Right now the site is sorted by friends, I would like to see the ability to sort by the other fields as well.

Here are some staggering stats:

  • Scoble leads with 1,588 followers and over 1,000 friends (damn, that must be one big black book!)
  • Biz Stone has the most updates (outside of BBC News) with 1,300
  • Other notable names in the Top 15 include: Tara Hunt, Nick Douglas, Chris Pirillo and Steve Rubel

In speaking with Alex Hillman, he notes that their goal is to update the site every few hours, right now its once per day. When I asked him why he created Twitterholic, his reply was, "Find out if you should be looking into therapy: either physical therapy for your thumbs, or a support group for your addiction. See how bad your symptoms are compared to your twitter-peers."

Now see if you can get your name on the leaderboard and become the ultimate Twitterholic!

Say it ain't so. I knew that someone would write this type of confounded thing and defeat the purpose of twitter altogether. I'm glad I'm near the bottom of the 15 so I can slide off gracefully soon.

I’m sorry Tara :( Someone had to do it, and well…

I had already unleashed the spider when I saw your post yesterday.. Sadly, it was written in such a way that it can’t be killed. Ever. It just keeps going and going, becoming smarter and faster with each page scrape.

Well, maybe not faster. In fact, that might be the end of us. It takes, I donno, 18 minutes to load a single page on twitter…

Ok, maybe I am way off here but why isn't Twitterholic similar to Technorati – techno ranks you based on links and so forth – here you are getting ranked based on friends and followers…

    followers (twitter) = links (technorati)

Also, Tara..a good portion of the “spirit” of twitter is finding things the API lets us do. These stats aren’t meant to encourage anyone…just show what kinds of interesting information we can gather.

Like twitter itself, consider twitterholic a kind of a social experiment…trend finding wont be very interesting one day from launch, but over time, we could find some very interesting things about our habits.
