Upcoming Interview With Russian Search Engine Yandex
by Allen Stern on January 13th, 2008
Yandex. Yandex is the leading Russian search engine with a 70% market share to 15-20%. We briefly covered Yandex along with several other international search engines last October.
I am interested in any questions you have for Ilya. Leave them in the comments and I will make sure to address them when I meet with him tomorrow. It’d be great to get more CN readers involved in the interviews we conduct!

I’m curious about whether they’re potentially interested in having “natural language” searches?
I think English lends itself to technology and the internet better than other languages (not to say I dislike Russian, i’m actually learning it now! :) ) – Do they think that their focus on another language actually disadvantages them on this front?
can you ask if they think google is going to try to come in and take their market share or if they feel safe?
also – do they believe language is an issue is why they are so strong vs. google?
Hi, I would be interested in how they architect their system? How do they handle the scale, queries, crawling, operations, development, caching, and releases? What software, hardware and other tools do they use? How much storage do they have? How many CPUs? How many documents? What is their queries per second? All that sort of good stuff :-)
