I was upgrading one of my bbpress forums today and went a little plugin mad.

BBpress with plugins and a little work could get you a friendfeed type of forum but that looks like a traditional forum.

Just wondering what features a system like vBulletin offers beyond a Disqus? If it’s me, I think I would just build generic blog posts (ie. titles), plug Disqus on them, and then just treat it like a forum for that topic…that makes it very easy to manage and free.

What am I missing?

Thanks Zee- will have to check it out. Not sure why but I’ve always preferred the local install for forums.

Hey Allen, you should try out SocialCast of you haven’t already. If it’s that streamlined forum like experience you’re looking for you should be pleased -particularly after the latest major update. Great team behind it too. Sure, it’s not hosted but still a very viable option
