VoucherCodes Launches in the UK
If you have been reading CN for a while, you know I am an online deal hunter. I use Fatwallet, Spoofee and Slickdeals mainly with a variety of niche sites for specific purchases. I buy a good bit of media from the UK and it’s been difficult to find online coupons for the merchants I shop at. VoucherCodes.co.uk launched about a month ago to help UK residents find coupons for online merchants. VoucherCodes.co.uk was created by the team that created local UK event site WeLoveLocal. Note that in the U.S. deals are called "coupons", in the UK they are called "vouchers".
This past June, Robin Goad at Hitwise took a look at the increased search volume for "vouchers" in the UK. He notes, "… UK Internet searches for ‘vouchers’ have shot up recently, having increased 12-fold over the last three years". With the continual increase of nearly everything we buy, coupon/voucher sites will continue to increase in usage.
I’d lke to see VoucherCodes.co.uk follow the Fatwallet model which allows consumers to get a rebate each time they make a purchase originating at Fatwallet. Fatwallet has also offered exclusive deals which has helped them to further increase their market share. There’s also a VoucherCodes.com site so this will force the ".co.uk" to always follow VoucherCodes. I’d love to learn if other countries offer coupons and/or vouchers for online retailers – drop me a note if you have any information.
Here’s the chart from Robin’s post regarding the increase in searches for vouchers in the UK:
Editor’s note: The parent company of VoucherCodes.co.uk is a sponsor of our sister site HTMLCenter.

Don’t forget to try the new kid on the block (www.voucherseeker.co.uk) and let us know what you think.
I’d be interesting in seeing the data for US too… I’ve been using more and more vouchers myself… they’re great!
in the US, i’m happy with http://www.retailmenot.com and http://searchalldeals.com
Start your own voucher code site, visit myvouchercodesite.com for more info.
There’s definitely been a surge in the number of new voucher code sites popping up.
HotUkDeals is probably the grand daddy of them all !
My preference is laughingdeals.com – they give a good mix of deals and (working) voucher codes.
A bit like HUKD but a lot cleaner and easier to follow.
But then I guess with so many discount sites it’s each to their own!
I’ve been using voucher codes in the UK for ages and with things being tighter this Christmas I certainly don’t see that changing. I usually pick between vouchercodes.co.uk, myvouchercodes.uk and iVouchercodes.co.uk.
