Web Architect

The Architect acts as a lead developer on large projects requiring sophisticated enterprise-class server development. The Architect will commonly be called upon to design solutions that use Java and possibly .NET as foundational solutions, and integrate with 3rd party systems. Typical problem spaces are enterprise Content Management Systems, and e-commerce.

During the planning phase of projects, the Architect will be called upon to create and document solutions, as well as communicate and represent HUGE to the technical staff of the client. During development the Architect will have a hands-on, coding, role in leading the development effort. This is a role that requires both excellent communication skills, and deep, direct technical knowledge. The candidate will work with a cross discipline team consisting of interaction designers, visual designers, front end HTML/CSS/JavaScript developers, and project managers to implement fully functional websites for our clients.

Architects will work primarily in Java, but experience or exposure to the Microsoft .Net environment and languages (C#) is a definite plus! The work will entail both custom development and the development of extensions to open source Java products commonly used in the Java web development environment. As technology in a web agency is a moving target, candidates should always be open to learning new technologies.

As HUGE is a global company, Architects may be asked to travel, but any such travel is expected to be less than 20%.

Required:

* MUST have 5+ years professional programming experience, including the development of back end software for websites
* Excellent knowledge of the Java programming language
* Experience with the various APIs that comprise J2EE – especially Servlet/JSPs
* Experience in the use and programming of at least one SQL database, such as Oracle, MS SQL-Server, PostgreSQL or MySQExperience in the development of HTML, including related technologies such as XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript
* Experience with at least one application server such as Tomcat, WebLogic, WebS phere, JBoss, etc.
* Must exhibit an appreciation for and fully cooperate in the advancement of best practice development techniques such as: test driven development, incremental development, rapid turnaround, good source code control, and excellent commenting of code as a primary means of communicating knowledge to future developers so that they may work on the source code that is developed
* Excellent communication skills
* Must be energetic and enthusiastic

Desired:

* Prefer a minimum of a BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a BS degree in engineering
* Experience with content management systems (CMS) is a big plus.
* XSL experience is a plus
* Experience with Microsoft .Net technology and the C# programming language is a big plus (some projects may require the use of .Net technology)
* Experience with test drive development tools such as JUnit is a plus
* Experience with the Spring framework is a plus
* Experience with Hibernate or other ORM technologies is a plus
* Large-scale consumer-facing web production experience in fast-paced agency, marketing and/or in-house creative services environments
* Proven written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to multi-task
* Demonstrated ability to function independently and still work well in a “team oriented” environment
