WeFi Launches Twitter Access; Nearly 1 Million Hotspots Listed
Israel-based WiFi hotspot listing service WeFi is announcing new integration with Twitter today. The Twitter integration will allow you to see your friends who are close to you anywhere in the world. The service actually works with friends on WeFi not your Twitter friends. Add the Twitter account for WeFi.
WeFi launched last month and is tracking close to 1 million hotspots around the world. The service is a download and works similar to any IM/chat service application. It’s a crowdsourced, community application. This means that it relies on you adding hot spots you find to the system. Once you load WeFi, it shows you the hotspots in your area, can automatically sign on to free/open access points and also show you where your friends are relative to where you are. The top "mappers" have listed thousands of access hotspots in the WeFi system.
Here is WeFi’s list of open hotspots in downtown San Francisco.
