I use them in different ways. When I want to see how many blogs link back to me I go to Technorati (and as an ego thing I do that at least once a day :p). When I want to search for topics or subjects I go to Google's blog search - because the results seem right on target and I don't feel like there's a bunch of crap/spam. But I haven't done this on Technorati for several months and should probably go back and give it a shot.

Excellent point on the Google indexing. I have yet to hear someone say "Technorati Juice"... :) They would get a huge boost if they could get their stuff indexed in Yahoo as fast as Google indexes my blog ... that would be an excellent strategic move!

Technorati is great for the inbound link numbers and finding who is linking to you. That's their sweet spot I believe. The buzzTV can go along with the WTF and I would not mind :)

good point on the juice.

This is exactly what I have observed through looking at my blog logs. Hardly anyone arrives via a blog search engine, they're all using Google's normal search. Google's spider is indexing new posts within hours.

That's a good point that Google Blog Search is just a subset of Google search, which is obviously better than Technorati at finding relevant information. Google Blog Search offers more options, though, too in the advanced search options. Check them out.

I wrote about this too, here:

Another important question to ask bloggers: Where does your traffic come from? Do you get more from Google or Technorati? Duh!

I agree about Google Blog Search offers more options. I disagree that traffic from is part of this discussion (the one Dave started). Traffic from is different than looking for something.
