NY Tech Video Demo: Wirewize
Wirewize was one of the presenting startups at tonight’s NY Tech Meetup. While this is about the most "unsexy" startup there is, the idea is pretty darn sweet. If you are an early adopter, Wirewize isn’t for you. It’s for the mainstream audience. The idea is simple – you purchase a new electronic device (e.g. tv, vcr, dvd, audio, video, etc.) and tell Wirewize what other components you have already and the system explains how to hook everything together for optimum performance. They tell you what cables you will need and show you images of your device (not a sample) and where you should plug-in which cable.
If you need to purchase the cables and/or wiring, Wirewize provides a link to a retailer for purchase. They also provide manuals for all of the devices they offer. They also offer a notification service which alerts you when a recall notice or firmware upgrade is available for your products.
They just launched a pay-per-call helpline that you can call if you get stuck and have a live technician walk you through the setup. My guess is that this will be a quick acquisition by Geek Squad.
Here’s their video demo:

Looks like a very useful site. Glad they launched!
