Yahoo! buys Bix
Bix, the online contest site is being gobbled (get it turkey day is coming) up by Yahoo!. It is amazing how few online contest sites there are frankly. I have been doing some form of online contest since 1996 and they really do work.
And Bix has taken it leaps and bounds further than the others.
CenterNetworks will interview Mike Speiser, Bix CEO this afternoon »
From the Bix announcement from Mike Speiser, CEO:
I am excited to announce that Bix has signed an agreement to be acquired by Yahoo! The Bix community is fueled by so many talented people from singers, dancers, and freestyle MCs to photographers, models, and comedians. This transaction will bring to the Bix community the Web's largest audience -- Yahoo! reaches ~500 million users per month on Yahoo!-branded services worldwide (1 out of every 2 internet users). This is huge folks! It means that every performer on Bix will be performing on essentially the world's largest stage with a potential audience in the hundreds of millions.
From PaidContent.org:
The startup raised about $6.78 million in funding, with investment from Sutter Hill Ventures, Trinity Ventures and Stanford University. Bix founder and CEO Mike Speiser previously founded Epinions. He will become VP for community at Yahoo. Yahoo said it planned to keep Bix.com as a stand-alone site and also to integrate it with some of its other social media properties, which include Yahoo Groups, Yahoo 360 and Flickr.
